Two flavours of galettes des rois in Quimperlé les rias

Logo Bretagne

The famous galette des rois... it's the queen of January. This article will take you to the heart of this French tradition, revisited with creativity and passion by the artisans of the Quimperlé region. Here are two shades of galette des rois that transcend the boundaries of the classic to offer pastry lovers an original taste experience, made in Quimperlé les rias!

The salted butter and caramel galette des rois

We headed for Riec-sur-Bélon, where we met Delphine Gestin, who has a passion for cooking.

"Sugar, cream, butter and no preservatives!"

Originally from Morbihan, Delphine worked in a biscuit factory there. In her spare time, she never took her apron off, preparing her own cakes.

Her passion for cooking led her to set up her own business... So she launched Du Sukr et du Beurre to delight your taste buds!

« I offer you my range of homemade salted butter caramel, made at home in Riec-sur-Bélon. »

— Delphine Gestin

Her aim is to offer her caramels in a range of flavours. Today, she offers plain salted butter caramel, praline caramel and chocolate caramel. In winter, she also produces salted butter caramel in Christmas flavours, and a new flavour should be arriving soon! The key is to offer quality products that she likes and that reflect her personality.

A little anecdote: this story begins in the kitchen of a young woman with a sweet tooth... Delphine found herself making homemade salted butter caramel for her recipes, and found it so good that she wanted to share it with others!

"A galette des rois with salted butter caramel, which gives it a praline flavour."

Here is Delphine's recipe for the crème frangipane:

  • 50 gr soft butter
  • 50 gr hazelnut powder
  • 1 egg
  • 160 gr plain salted butter caramel Du Sukr et du Beurre

Where can I find Du Sukr et du Beurre products?

You can contact Delphine on her social networks or call her on 06 24 80 23 03 to buy her products on the spot. You can find a list of her retailers on her website.

The Quimperloise galette des rois quimperloise

Now let's head for the cultural centre of Destination Quimperlé les rias: the town of Quimperlé! This is where Johnny Métivier runs his patisserie & chocolaterie.

« Passionate and rigorous »

Originally from Angers, Johnny always knew that his future lay under a white apron! At first, he wanted to become a baker or cook, but fate had other plans and he opted for a CAP in pastry-making.

After 4 years' experience, he set up his own business in Quimperlé in 2005, at the age of 23. That's how he began his career as a pastry chef in Quimperlé, 19 years ago now!
